Congressman Castro Celebrates Negotiated Release of Five Americans Held in Iran
SAN ANTONIO — Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) released the following statement applauding the announcement of a successful negotiation by the Biden administration to free five Americans who were wrongfully detained in Iran:
“Yesterday’s news is long-awaited relief for Siamak Namazi, Emad Sharghi and Morad Tahbaz, and two other Americans who I hope will be back home soon.
“Over the last several years, the Biden administration has quietly negotiated for the successful release of more than a dozen Americans. As we celebrate the impending homecoming of these five Americans, my thoughts are with Evan Gershkovich, Paul Whelan, Eyvin Hernandez, and all those who have yet to return. Even one American unjustly held abroad is too many, and I urge the State Department to keep up the pressure to bring all wrongfully detained Americans home safely."
